My passion for photography goes back 25 years, when a family friend piqued my interest enough to set up a darkroom in my parent’s basement. Looking through a viewfinder and capturing the world on film has always captivated me. Bringing those images to life in a darkroom was pure magic. My specialty is people, and I try to create compelling and soulful portraits of those I photograph.
While portraits have been my true passion, over the past several years my fine art work has migrated to photographing abandoned buildings and landscapes. I am fascinated by the quiet beauty and solitude of these places that have been forgotten or disregarded. I try to convey the interplay between texture, light and shadow in these images, lending a sense of abstraction that moves beyond the literal subject matter.
In 2003, I became interested in digital printing. A teacher of mine turned me onto a method of printing that went beyond what was possible in a darkroom, and I was hooked. I studied with several master printmakers, including Jon Cone of Cone Editions Press in Vermont, and in 2005 I opened my own printmaking studio. I print portfolios, exhibition prints and fine art reproductions for photographers, painters, and all other artists working in two dimensional media. It is a very collaborative process, and I work closely with artists to achieve the best expression possible in their images. My prints are highly regarded and several are in the archives at the Library of Congress.
